Raffle Success!!

The committee of Athlunkard B.C. would like to thanks all the members and supporters who made this fundraising raffle a success. The total raised was in the region of €4200 which exceeds the attempts of previous years raffles.

Thanks to the support shown by everyone involved in the club it is now possible for us to look towards ordering a much needed new boat to accomodate the growing interest of young oarspeople.

The future is looking bright for A.B.C. and as always we would ask you to encourage prospective oarspeople to come down and give rowing a try. Contact any committee member for details or come down to the club.

Boat Blessing Ceremony - 08/10/2006

The boat naming ceremony which took place on Sunday 8th Oct. attracted a large turn out and proved to be an outstanding success.

The blessing was performed by Fr.O'Malley of St.Mary's and those in attendance included Minister Willie O'Dea, Deputy Mayor Kieran O'Hanlon, Jan O'Sullivan T.D., Cllr. John Gilligan, Denis Treacy, principal of Gaelcholaiste Luimnigh, and representatives of the local rowing clubs.

The occasion coincided with the launch of the raffle to raise funds towards the purchase of a new boat. Anthony Foley was on hand to present a signed and framed Munster jersey to the club which will be a much sought after prize in the raffle

Refreshments were served in the clubhouse to round off a very successful day. The committee wish to thank all those involved in the organisation of the event, especially the oarspeople who had the clubhouse and grounds looking splendid.

Blessing of the Boats Ceremony 8/10/2006

The Committee of Athlunkard Boat Club would like to invite all members to join us on the 8th of October for a boat blessing and naming ceremony.

 

There are 4 boats in the club that are presently unnamed and over the past few weeks the committee have decided that three members will have boats named after them. These members are Louis Murnane, Johnny O'Connor and Gus O'Driscoll. The other boat is going to be named by the students of the parish's first all Irish secondary school. It is hoped that the connection between Athlunkard Boat Club and the new school will grow strong over the next few years and many students will also become members of our club.

 

A lot of preparation has gone into the day and effort has been put into getting the place looking it's best; including new paths, refurbished clubhouse rooms(which in recent years have unfortunately been neglected) and digging out old pictures to allow former oarsmen to see themselves on display.

On the day, a movie with highlights from the 2005 season will be playing and refreshments will be served (including beverages from the newly re-opened members bar).

 

Also, we will be joined by former Munster Rugby captain, Anthony Foley, who will present the club with a framed jersey, signed by the Heineken Cup winning team. This will then be the first prize in a fund-raising raffle with other prizes including a colour television, €200 hotel voucher and a dinner for 2. Proceeds of this raffle will all go towards a much needed new boat for the club. Tickets will be sold on the day and if anyone is willing to bring tickets away to sell it would be most appreciated.

 

We would like to thank you for your continuing support and especially for those who have not ventured through the gates of the club in many years, we would like you to join us on the 8th and see for yourselves where that support is going.

DVD Launch

The Junior Crews of 2005 season making a presentation to Coaches Billy Meehan and Michael Kiely, showing appreciation for their continued and valued contribution to the club. At the launch of the Athlunkard Boat Club DVD.

The DVD documents the entire previous seasons races where the club won 22 races across Ireland and Europe.

Copies of the DVD are available from it creator Roger Kiely, emailed requests to this site will also be passed on.
